The effects of the powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake which struck Haiti on January 12, 2010 has been in all of our consciousness as print and electronic media bring us the struggles of our neighbors in Haiti.

Our fellows in Haiti are alive and sending us updates on the conditions around them as they unfold. 

Peter Graeff (KILP-01) reports that he has lost his house but has found shelter with friends for the moment. He says that much needed rations were delivered two days ago and will help for a little while.

Dr. Tania Pierre-Charles-Castor’s (KILP-02) family is doing as well as can be expected, her ranch house surviving the quake.  Her home has become a gathering place for the neighborhood where neighbors can exchange information with the outside world. Aid (food and water) have been in short supply in her area.

With the support of Peter and Tania’s classmates in the Kellogg International Leadership Program (KILP), the KFLA is starting a fund to help Tania, Peter and their communities recover from the devastation.

As we learned from the tragic events of the Chengdu earthquake, Katrina and the 2004 Tsunami, aid is often there for the immediacy of the situation.  Long-term recovery, however, depends on aid that flows even after emergent needs have been addressed.
