Three Fellowships, One Goal
Ireland Wrap Up

Using six community case studies developed by the International Centre for Local and Regional Development in Ireland, fellows and emerging Irish community leaders met from May 4-8, 2010 to share their experiences and perspectives, glean knowledge from each other, and think deeply about how to develop sustainable leadership for community.  The multi-disciplinary background of the participants distinguished the gathering.

Executive Summary of Outcomes Transferable Concepts

Building community is slow, unglamorous, painstaking, and sometimes dangerous work. Without meaningful community, little positive gets done. Yet built authentically, community unleashes human potential and leverages the assets of organizations to address the great issues of the day.

In response to this need, alumni and administrative staff of the Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance collaborated with their counterparts from the Eisenhower and Loeb Fellowships to sponsor a first of its kind international forum on the island of Ireland May 4-7-2010. Despite travel delays due to volcanic ash, 11 Kellogg Fellows, 11 Eisenhower Fellows, 3 Loeb Fellows, and 1 Livingston Fellow were in attendance for the meeting, which began in Dublin and then moved to Belfast. Six young emerging community leaders from the Island of Ireland identified by the Irish Eisenhower Fellows also attended. A final program agenda and biographical sketch of the forum attendees accompany this Executive Summary.

Our international team has put together a set of concepts that they believe can guide today's leaders as they work to bridge differences in their communities.
