Pablo Alvarado, an immigrant from El Salvador, is the national coordinator/founder of the national Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON). He received the 2014 Matusak Courageous Leadership Award for his work with local governments to help establish worker centers providing day laborers who are seeking jobs honest places of safety and employment.

KFLA received a community based grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. This three year grant's purpose is the development of a network of Latin American and Caribbean Kellogg Fellows, which will enable Fellows to come together to foster collaborations, mentoring and coaching opportunities and in turn making a collective impact in their local communities.

Nancy Guarneros, graduate of UCLA and a founder of Graduates Reaching a Dream Deferred (GRADD), named as the recipient of the 2012 Matusak Courageous Leadership Award for her work speaking out on behalf of undocumented immigrant students, while risking arrest and deportation.

Susan Sygall, executive director of Mobility International USA, named as the recipient of the 2011 Matusak Courageous Leadership Award for her leading role as an advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities.

Wil Cwikiel, middle school principal at Harbor Springs High Schools in rural northern Michigan, named as the recipient of the 2011 Ray Gatchalian Spirit of Leadership Award for his exemplary efforts of courage and risk-taking roles in environmental protection and advocacy to his current role in counseling youth.

Shirley Sherrod, former USDA Georgia State Director for Rural Development, named as the recipient of the 2011 Ray Gatchalian Spirit of Leadership Award for her confrontation of local, state and national structures that affect poor farmers in South Georgia.

Bill Bolling, founder and executive director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, as the recipient of the 2009 Ray Gatchalian Spirit of Leadership Award for his exemplary efforts to serve the vulnerable populations of the greater Atlanta area.
